Previews Of Coming Attractions

Have you been out of touch of the Justice Security world for a while?  Let me fill you in:

The last published Justice Security story, Hell’s Bells, saw the loss a member of Justice Security during the trip to Hell, and almost saw the end of Madeline, Nicholas Turner’s half-angel daughter.  That was in 2017.

In 2018, in the last published Sardis County story, I’m Your Boogie Man, we saw that Justice Security is building a new home in Sardis County, almost identical to the one in the city.  Nicholas Turner is moving his family to Sardis County as a partner of Justice Security.  Nicholas, Jim Dandy, Patty Ferguson, Brandon King, and Snickers are all new resident of Perry, the county seat in Sardis County.

Of course, that means Madeline is going, too.

If you remember, Madeline has forgotten how to access her “angel” side, so she’s growing as a regular, mortal girl.

Now, what’s coming up:

The next Justice Security novel, Black Dog, is complete, and will see publication later this year.  Black Dog takes place soon after the events of Hell’s Bells and I’m Your Boogie Man.  There will be changes in personnel, and a tidying-up of an old case.  But, the story is set mostly inside the Justice Security building…a kind of “day-to-day” preview of life there.

Following Black Dog will be Lido Shuffle.  Lido Shuffle will tell the story of Lido Bouvier, a Cajun assassin-for-hire with a contract to take out Joey Justice, along with his Chicago acquaintances, Lieutenant Michelle “Mickey” Rooney, Detective Sam Tanner, and private investigator Manny Ramirez.  Instead of travelling to Chicago, Mickey Rooney and her gang come to Justice Security, with lots of explosive action.

The book after Lido Shuffle will be a Sardis County novel, Werewolves Of London.  All you need to know is that Madeline arrives in Perry, and meets up with Mary Smalls and Carol Grace Montgomery, along with the Sardis witches.  Does Madeline regain her memory?  And what are the werewolves of London?  Tune in for more…

So, there it is:  a “previously in Justice Security” and a “previously in Sardis County” refreshers, and a “coming attractions” preview of the next three books.

Whew.

Bonkers From Quarantine

Are you finding it hard to concentrate on reading?  Or on watching a movie?

Are you going bonkers in quarantine?

I get it.  I really get it.

Not everyone is like me.  I like being at home.  I enjoy reading, writing, and watching movies.

What are some things you can do while you’re keeping safe?

1   1.      Exercise. (LOLOLOL)
2   2.      If the weather permits, go outside.  Walk around.  Just keep your distance from others, okay?
3   3.      Plant a garden.
4   4.      Throw rocks into lakes and rivers.
5   5.      Instead of chasing them away, try feeding wildlife, like squirrels.  If you show enough         patience, eventually you will be trusted by the wild animal…and you may be able to touch or pet it.

Now, for the more introverted (like me):

1   1.      Read.  (Especially my stories – they’re at Amazon, in Kindle Unlimited)
2   2.      Write.
3   3.      Enjoy a long hot bath or shower.  No need to stink while you’re quarantined.
4   4.      Play with your children.  Or grandchildren.
5   5.      Play with your pets.
6   6.      Try that recipe that you’ve been wanting to try.
7   7.      Binge watch that TV show you’ve been wanting to watch.

There are lots of things you can do to keep yourself occupied.
But, most of all, stay safe and keep reading!

What To Do In Scary Times

Scary times right now.  People are worried about getting sick, or, even worse, dying from this virus that’s sweeping the globe.

I’m worried, too.  I’m sixty years old, and I have underlying health issues.  My wife is also sixty.  My dad is eighty-two years old, and my daughter has asthma.  My stepdaughters are healthy, with no big health issues, and the grandkids are all healthy.

So, yeah, I’m frightened.

What can be done to combat the virus?

Follow all instructions from your government and health officials.  The best things to do are:

1.      Wash your hands.  Soap and water for twenty seconds is sufficient.
2.      Don’t touch your face.  If your hands aren’t clean, you can transmit the virus.
3.      Stay home.  As much as possible, stay home.  If you ARE out, you should:
4.      Spread out!  Stay at least three feet away from others.
5.      Don’t hoard!  If you buy up all the supplies, what’s left for others?

Simple rules to keep you safe.  Stay home and READ!

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read all of my stories at no extra cost.  They’ll be there at least until June, and maybe longer, so take advantage while you can!

Stay safe, people, and keep reading!

Please - I Need Your Help!

I know, I know…it’s been literally forever since I’ve written on my blog, and I apologize for that.

This is a special occasion, however, and I need your help.

Those of you that follow my stories know about the two stories featuring Colonel Quentin James Abernathy (Ret.), The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Heart Of Glass.  The stories were masterfully performed by voice actor Phillip J. Mather, a friend of mine.

Phillip is a warm and sincere British gentleman that resides in Texas.  Recently, Phillip’s wife, Megan, suffered a debilitating stroke.  She survived, thank the heavens, but rehabilitation is going to take a while, and is going to be expensive.

Phillip has set up a fundraiser on Facebook for donations to help defray the cost of rehab.

If you, or one of your loved ones, has ever suffered a major blow to their health, you know how expensive it can be.

I ask you to please, please, PLEASE donate to Phillip’s fund.  I did, and I only wish it had been more.

Here’s the link:

The man needs help, and I know you’ll come through for him.

Thank you, and…

It's Everywhere! It's EVERYWHERE!

Well, the deed is done.

The new edition of The Night Chicago Died – A Justice Security Novel is now available for pre-order most places that sell eBooks.

The hardcover edition is also available for pre-order from your favorite bookseller, like Barnes And Noble, Amazon, or even local independent bookstores like Parnassus Books in Nashville:  https://www.parnassusbooks.net/book/9780692142585

I want to urge you to support your independent bookstore, or even Barnes And Noble.  Amazon shouldn’t have the whole bookselling pie.

In my author’s note inside The Night Chicago Died, I mention that if you purchased the original version of the book, you already have the story.  The story is the same, but the Chicago characters are new.  I think you’ll like them, and I have stories in the works featuring Lieutenant Michelle “Mickey” Rooney, Sam Tanner, and Manny Salazar.  And, if you like my Justice Security folks, these three characters from Chi-Town are just as quirky and smart-assed!

The most exciting part to me about being able to release this story everywhere is that Justice Security readers across the globe will be able to enjoy the complete series!  While the story was originally exclusive to Amazon’s Kindle Worlds, many folks didn’t have access to it.  But, now, everyone can have the eighth story, and can read about Justice Security’s most violent meeting with Esteban Fernandez yet!

A word about Fernandez:  I enjoy writing the stories in which he faces off with Joey Justice and the crew.  I do.  But he is the hardest, scariest character I’ve ever written.  In order to give a character full credence, and to make the character believable, an author must be able to access that character in his or her mind…the author must become that character for a brief period.  It frightens me that I can do that with Fernandez.  He’s insane, he’s highly intelligent, he’s an extreme serial killer, and he’s ruthless.

I have to go dark when I write about him.  And the darkness inside frightens me to no end.

I do it, however.  I have to.  He’s a worthy opponent to Justice Security, to the point that Justice Security is building a second, hidden headquarters in the middle of Sardis County, so that they have a rabbit hole to disappear into if they have to.  Of course, with that second headquarters being in Sardis County, there’s a whole new set of things to worry about…and you’ll have to pick up that series to find out about it.

So, if you haven’t already, I hope that you pick up your copy of The Night Chicago Died- A Justice Security Novel.  Buy it in print, or buy an eBook…but buy it!  You will thoroughly enjoy the story!

Also, coming in a couple of months:  I’m Your Boogie Man – A Tale Of Sardis County.  Keep your eyes peeled, and…

I'm Kinda Excited

I’m kinda excited.

I’ve finished I’m Your Boogie Man – A Tale Of Sardis County.  I got a bad case of writer’s block there for a while, but I’m over it now…and the story is done!

This story is all about the Sardis Slasher, and how Sheriff Napier and Deputy Blake deal with it.  It also expands the story behind the Sardis witches, and just how deep their power goes.  The backstory on the father of Phoebe’s kids is also explored, and a certain security company from the city sets up shop in Sardis County…making Sardis County their rabbit hole.  But, they might have bitten off more than they can chew!

So, I’m kinda excited about that.

I’ve started work on Black Dog – A Justice Security Novel.  In the story, several members of Justice Security are dealing with nightmares from the aftermath of events in Hell’s Bells.  And that’s all I got to say ‘bout that.

I’m kinda excited about that, too.

But, this is what I’m most excited about:  in mid-July, the rights to The Night Chicago Died revert back to me.

What does that mean?

Well, in 2015, I wrote The Night Chicago Died as a team-up between my Justice Security and J. A. Konrath’s Jack Daniels.  Mr. Konrath didn’t have time to add anything to all of the stories that he had received, so, rather than co-write the stories, he partnered with Amazon and created a Kindle World.  Many of us authors were invited to be the initial suppliers of Jack Daniels stories teaming his popular character with our characters.

Fast forward to this year:  Amazon pulled the plug on Kindle Worlds, taking both authors and licensers by surprise.  Kindle Worlds will be shut down completely by mid-July, and rights to all of the stories therein will revert to the authors that wrote them.  However, the stories themselves were written using characters belonging to whoever licensed the Kindle World.

I emailed Mr. Konrath.  His solution was simple:  rewrite the story using your own characters.

I did.  On August 1st, the new edition of The Night Chicago Died – A Justice Security Novel will hit store shelves everywhere!  There will be a hardcover print edition, and the ebook will be available everywhere…not Amazon-exclusive.  Now, the basic story is the same – and if you purchased the Kindle Worlds edition, you already have the basic story.  The story still remains the eighth story in the Justice Security canon.  It just has new characters replacing J. A. Konrath’s characters, with a couple of editorial changes.

I like these new characters in this reworked story.  I’ll have to write more stories with them!

So, yeah, I’m excited about that!  I’m glad to have the story “back in the fold”, so to speak, and away from Amazon exclusivity!

So, those of you that buy your books through Kobo or Google Play or Barnes and Noble, get ready…because on August 1st, you’ll be able to add the eighth Justice Security story to your collections!

And, all of you, please…
